The organic chemistry was established in 1952as a division of the Department of Chemistry. Currently, there are 10 full professors including 1 professor of the Recruitment Program of Global Experts, 1 Yangzi professor, 1 professor of the Recruitment Program of Global Youth Experts, 1 New Century Excellent Talents, and 16 associate professors. The Research in organic chemistry at JLU addresses a broad spectrum of important problems of current interest and includes investigates at the frontier of bioorganic chemistry, organic synthesis, organometallics, and polymer science. Specific areas of research include:
1. Synthesis and catalytic properties of chiral organic compounds,
2. Synthesis of functional organic materials,
3. Natural products chemistry,
4. Green organic synthesis, Physical organic chemistry,
5. Molecular biology and organic synthesis,
6. Organic electro-optical polymers,
7. Functional organic polymers,
8. Sustainable polymers,
9. Responsive organic polymers.
In the last 5 years, our scientific researches were mainly supported by 973 projects from MOST, projects form NSFC, provincial research projects, and industry-sponsored projects. Up to now, we have published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers in Chem. Rev., J. Am. Chem. Soc, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Org. Lett., J. Org. Chem., Organometallics, Chem. Commun., Chem. Eur. J. Langmuir, and so on. The annual intake of master and Ph. D. graduate students is around 35 and 45, respectively. We offer Organic Chemistry, Physical Organic Chemistry, Organic Synthesis, Natural Product Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry courses for undergraduate and graduate students.
